Classes at CMU

Drawing
Most of the work I have done is very abstract and thus drawing was probably the hardest class for me. Drawing based on real objects is something I rarely did before attending this program. In my class I got to learn a lot about drawing non-contour lines and shading in order to make a drawing look more 3D and bring it to life. We originally started with doing drawings of random still objects, but eventually moved to drawing nude models with an emphasis on gesture drawings.

2D Animation
In 2D animation, I learned how to use after effects at a pretty basic level. Each student in my class was responsible for making 10-20 seconds of animation, and at then end we stitched these all together to create a longer narrative.

Sculpture
Sculpture was the class I was probably most surprised to have liked. I went in expecting us to be making ceramic sculptures, but it was more of taking every day things and putting them together to make art. We started off with a small project in which we had to make a sculpture related to the word organic, and then for our final project, our sculpture had to be related to containment.

Industrial Design
Industrial design was definitely my favorite class in the program. We started off with coming up with a redesign for a service or product. After that our teacher explained to us the importance of using cardboard for prototypes of objects, and so we had to recreate any object with cardboard. Then for our final project, we were given cardboard, paper, and a light bulb, and we had to design a lamp of any type.
